@rnbwtrout Ascension has always favored melee and physical builds (thank McDoubles for that). Even if you know what you're doing, spell casting feels like a joke even when you spam something like Blizzard. It's not much better on Elune with Reddit builds like Owtl being used by every dps and their grandma.

@click73s said in Whats the deal with the toxic player and nothing getting done about it ??:
kinda new here been playing for like month and half. i played last part of season 8 with very little toxic people so far in season 9 it been very toxic. random group of 4 just come up just out side stormwind and start calling me names and just ksing any thing i try to kill for 10mins before i have to recall. people in dungeons just being jerks doing nothing to help the group or just flat out talking crap to some in the group none stop. and yes i reported this but iv seen still in game doing this. and yes iv muted most of them when there talk in chat. this needs to be cleaned up there are really nice people on here who do not need this crap in a game they come to relax and enjoy
Plays Alliance
Your first mistake. In all seriousness, people will rage if someone griefs a dungeon run, or just abandons a group before the dungeon even starts because time was wasted. Players will ks each other during the beginning of the season, but when it dies down it's easier to get mobs.Welcome to MMOs. Enjoy your stay,

If I'm rolling as an Int--based hero, I shouldn't be getting Warrior or Rogue abilities 90% of the time, or vice-versa if I want to tank. If I'm trying to be a healer I shouldn't be getting melee skills. This is almost as bad as Gacha rng.
I can definitely understand wanting biased RNG in that regard.
Perhaps a toggle/choice of playing "Fully Randomized" or Tank/Healer/Melee/Spellcaster/Hybrid where you are given a randomized pool that only include talent/abilities that work for that choice? There should be some kind of algorithm or code for rng pulls that's based on your primary stat and beginner skills. For some examples:
-If your first skill isn't a shapeshift form, you shouldn't be get shapeshift skills while you're leveling without a shapeshift build. How does it make sense to get a cat form skill that requires cat form or defense stance if you don't even have a cat form or tank skills in your current deck?
-If I go with Spirit as my main because I want to heal in dungeons, my rng pool should consist of every single spell and talent/enchant that connects with healing and even spell damage spells. There's no excuse to give players Rogue or Cat form abilities/chants when healers don't even use cat forms. Strength and Agility would have a rng pool together. It shouldn't feel like a predatory gacha game where I have to keep spending to get something around my playstyle or play 18 hours a day just to get closer to what I want. The rng vibe wears off when you want to dps, tank, or heal, yet your deck won't even help you beat the easiest mythic dungeon or raid.

This definitely seems to be a season that split the playerbase between those who really enjoy RNG and do not. The ingame Ascension chat is rife with both of these sides.
I personally agree with @Chaoss, loving the messy RNG and the fact it is so hard to get a meta-build going, so everyone can stand on equally wobbly footing.
I'm running a build I would never have dreamt of trying or having fun with, and am excited to try the next prestige round to explore more. I don't notice the grind for marks or scrolls because I enjoy this gameplay loop that much.Whether fortunate or not, once we are half way through the season, I can imagine people will have done so much rerolling and testing that meta builds will surface, the mess is no longer as messy and people are pushing mythic+ and raids.
A lot of people argue just as @dumboodaking and @Healplx do here, but I wish some constructive critiques from those who are against this kind of wild RNG:
- What do you think that should be done instead that isn't free-pick of Area 52?
- What can be done for this season's gameplay-loop without making it pseudo free-pick?
- How would you suggest fixing/balancing the parts that irritate you the most?If I'm rolling as an Int--based hero, I shouldn't be getting Warrior or Rogue abilities 90% of the time, or vice-versa if I want to tank. If I'm trying to be a healer I shouldn't be getting melee skills. This is almost as bad as Gacha rng.

Needs Service Pack 1 Error (Despite having the most updated SP1)
It's great you're still giving Windows 7 and 8 users access to Ascension (I'm eventually going to move up to 10, but 11 can rot), but lately I've been getting errors that tell me I need an updated Service Pack 1 (even though I have the last one produced by Microsoft). I have had to uninstall and reinstall Ascension just to work around it. This usually happens when a new client happens. I think there's a similar thread reporting this, but it didn't mention anything about the Service Pack 1 error.

Seems like this Electron update will be reverted.
I have no ETA nor any further information sadly.
In the future, updating to W10 or newest will most likely still have to be done in order to continue using launcher though.
Just for the future, you should give people a heads-up when you make these kind of changes/updates.

Pretty shitty not to say anything about this, but whatever. Should have expected this knowing how much of a train wreck the CoA Alpha was over the weekend with endless crashes.

@LuchiousCaine said in How's the playerbase?:
Take the stuff @BimboBaggins1981 is saying with a grain of salt. I'm not going to debate here, but just know the points they raise are only really a concern if you go into Ascension with high expectation or if you are already a veteran of its content. All MMOs have metas and imbalances.
Have fun trying things out. Experiment. Learn the game at your own pace. Finding friends to play with is definitely the best way to enjoy Ascension imo.
Have fun getting griefed by someone who joins a dungeon just to bail out of spite whether or not s/he intentionally pulled mobs. Have fun getting yelled at by "elite players" who just copy-paste whatever build McDoubles or other youtubers talk about, and have fun getting into any kind of guild that does endgame if you don't know what you're doing. Enjoy the fact spamming dungeons will get you to 70 faster than the so-called "revamped world," and net you more points to use on enchants (I've realized this while going through HC Ironman mode). Have fun trying to do quests without the p2w quest orb and lootbot (sure, others will have it, but doesn't mean they'll share it with you).
See, collecting things is fun, but the problem is most of the mounts, pets, and other dumb things are behind paywalls unless you're willing to go through the cancer that is farming on Ascension. Have fun wasting over 6 hours getting a stupid green welp just to heal with a dragon.

RE: How's the playerbase?
@DevilShark said in How's the playerbase?:
@DootLord I’ve been playing on this server for about 2 years, but when I go to play on other projects I feel toxicity, someone says that it’s the same here, but during the game I just enjoyed the lamp atmosphere and challenges, custom classes, draft, exalted, etc. .d I like this project and wish more interesting features in the game.
The toxicity on Ascension is even worse especially with people griefing in dungeons nowadays. Even if players aren't griefing each other in dungeons, dungeon runs are still toxic for other reasons. If you don't grasp mystic enchants by the time you hit 60, or don't use mandatory, must-have Reddit builds McDoubles and other youtubers influence guilds to enforce for raids/pvp, you're going to be very miserable with endgame content (I hope you like melee and aoe spam because range is more or less a joke even at endgame. Pets are more or less worthless unless you go with something like Wolf or a Green Welp*). Don't even bother doing dungeon quests unless you buy the p2w quest orb and lootbot if you want that quest xp, and the dungeon queue from 15-70 honestly sucks (Do you like SFK or WC? I hope so because you'll be in those dungeons for the most part, and I guarantee you that you're not getting your dungeon quests done in one shot). I'm pressing X to doubt on the healthy population comment because I've been in 40 minute queues as a healer, longer as a dps. It's getting tougher to do pugs thanks to griefers and long queues. Org isn't as crowded as it was during the cancerous 4th League, and Shattrah is more or less dead (and buggy).
*Btw, have fun farming green welps or any pet whistle/stone/vellum because farming is not fun at all on this server.

@x3cutiex3 said in This game is utterly Unenjoyable.:
the only thing making it unenjoyable are all the transphobes, racists, homophobes, sexists and right-wing trolls in public general chat that for some reason do not get a ban.
edit:
getting negative rep for calling out the extremist right-wing trash was expectable.
@NathanCardinal might elaborate on this?
@Phro so you are saying, that you are ok with this behavior? even like it perhaps?
@Makaezaoru joins the fray. bigot.Posts like these and people like you are why Azeroth at War and Duskhaven were terrible flops full of creepy players (AaW is dead in the water). No one even mentioned identity politics. Btw, I think you should stop going to Reddit because real life isn't Reddit.
PvP is never going to be balanced. Expecting balanced Pvp is like expecting world peace or expecting a hyena not to eat lion cubs in the wild. Pvp to me was a leveling tool I had some fun with despite being awful at it, and once I hit 70 I never touched it again. Stun meta isn't fun, and I'm not interested in fighting p2w whales and poopsockers in high risk pvp. I dealt with enough whales in my gacha days.
I'm more concerned about PvE getting worse from buggy and mostly unplayable content to flat out griefing in dungeons and endgame content being a barren wasteland unless you can get into a guild with some mandatory reddit-meta build Mcdoubles and other youtubers made guilds enforce (btw, screw you for being involved with Raid Shadow Legends and its sleazy sponsorship, McDoubles). I've been in 3 griefed instances in a row where players will troll tanks with extra pulls, or they'll pretend to do something before leaving the group. At first it was in the 1-60 dungeon runs, but now it's hitting heroic and mythic. If griefing isn't an issue, it's getting harder to find people to do any kind of content regardless of your role. I've been in queues for over 20 minutes as a healer, longer as a dps. Queues are longer regardless of your level.
"Go level in the world. They changed zones where you can level. Level woodworking, lol" - Dungeons and Pvp are still faster to level with or without xp boosts. Have the p2w quest orb on hand with lootbot, and you're going to get more dungeon xp (even more with heirlooms). Woodcutting is a joke that lost its luster. I'm only going to play old quests so many times ad nauseum.
"Go collect pets and mounts" - Too bad most of them are in the cash shop (I got Squeaker with some left over coin after buying an altar and other things, so I'm not going to play holy than thou), and farming feels like I'm dying from cancer. Pet drops need to be faster, and they need to revamp the pet system. It's pretty bad.
"Join a guild." Yea, good luck with that if you don't have some mandatory, must have reddit build McDoubles or other youtubers influenced guilds to look for. The group finder hardly gets any action.
"Git gud" I figured out my Huntard build, and am trying to get the hang of Hierophant healing. The problem is the pve build gives you tame dragon, and if you don't have a green whelp don't even bother doing any healing with a dragon. Griefers aren't really helping you learn how to play your role because some of them really go out of the way to make it miserable.
"Play Draft Pick" I'm not touching that with a 69' stripper pole, and I'm not spending money on p2w mechanics. Buying the p2w quest orb was bad enough.
