Please let us turn off XP gain!

Ascension provides a really unique opportunity for a very strong twinking community.
On a personal note, I find myself quickly burnt out on end-game progression on this server. The only way I can think of to continue to have fun on the server is by twinking. I think this would open the server up to a lot of new people and also reduce the likelihood of people leaving due to boredom.
Is there a reason this feature was taken out of the game?

@pablow Absolutely +1 for this suggestion!
Twinking on ascension would be amazing! -
Hey there!
It's a rather big question, but our biggest reason for disabling it is quite simply that our investigations on the community health show, that the overall happiness and positivity come from it being disabled
I 100% understand the fun of having a maxed-out twink to PvP with - and it is something I enjoy myself.
But no matter what decision we make, we'll make people question our choices. Therefore we have to go off the data we have and our expertise gained through trial and errorI hope this clears up a bit.
Best regards,
Senior GM Lost -
@Lost Thanks for responding!
I hear what you're saying, and I can respect a team that looks at data. Two main thoughts that come to mind:
-
I understand frustration players have when trying to level in BGs while facing twinks, and it's something I've experienced myself. However, players pass through BG level brackets pretty quickly on Ascension. Most players don't have to deal with them at all once reaching level 60. Furthermore, there are other options for leveling if players find themselves frustrated by the BG experience. I don't know what data was collected, but it seems like a long-term source of enjoyment and engagement with the server is being discounted to avoid short-term and easily-avoided frustration/unhappiness for some players.
-
Again, I don't know what data was collected, but it sounds like quality of life was measured from current players. Imagine the population of people who aren't included in that data because they either a) stopped playing the server because they ran out of potential ways to find enjoyment (like in my case) or b) find most of their enjoyment in twinking and didn't bother playing the server at all because the option wasn't available.
I know as a player I don't have as much of the picture as staff does, but from my perspective it seems like something worth revisiting as a development team!

The data we collect is over the course of our entire project, meaning 6+ years' worth of information
We have had periods with it enabled so that you could toggle, periods with segregating exp locked characters into their own BGs and/or dungeons, and periods of it disabled - and so far our conclusion simply is that it is the most beneficial to leave it disabled.
That being said, we're always open to test new ideas, collect more information and make changes and tests based on that. A lot of things can change as we grow and our playerbase evolves
-
@pablow I already wrote about this in a topic called an interesting idea.
However, the title was wrong.
The idea is very good. -
I just smack them every tier with prestige. Save full sets for every bracket & they run when they see me coming.
-
@Lost Hey! Thanks for the explanation. And as for where ideas go, would it work if there was a specific bracket for twinks?
For example; if you turn off your XP, you'll be in twink mode and as a result, battlegrounds will only pit you up against other twinks, unless other players wish to, world PvP will mostly be allowed against other twinks, and dungeons will put you up with other twinks, while also making the dungeons harder to make due for the power creepage.
Not sure what the others think about this, but it's something that came to mind, basically create an entirely different bracket, seperating two different playstyles, make both parties happy and what not!
-
@VoodooJazz We actually did try this for a while, but had many more complaints about that compared to what we have right now
This was mostly due to the fact that battlegrounds had so long queue times that it took most of the fun out of it -
@Lost Ohh very interesting, I didn't think about that part.
I'm sure there hasn't been many complaints when it came to queues for the level 10-19, 20-29 or 30-39 battleground brackets, but tell me if I'm wrong, but the complaints must have arisen when it came to those of a higher level bracket: 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and to 60-69. Which makes sense that there was those complaints about lack of queues considering that it's cut into 7 different brackets in a somewhat small community of players. In any case, I wouldn't know how you guys would immediately fix that problem considering that problem has been said after you guys tried it out. I'll have to think about that, and for those who have any ideas, feel free to propose them here as well!
Also, I'd like to say this too, I'm surprised that the dev team have experimented so much and listened to the players while trying to keep what works and remove what doesn't, and trying out new things to see how well they do for the gameplay experience! It's surreal to see, and to even see devs communicating with the players such as yourself, it's like a dream come true
