Ascension is not launching
-
Everytime I try to launch ascension, mcafee pops up saying it blocked another virus. Now ascension wont load.
-
@rawrk Either disable McAfee or add the client to it's exceptions
-
@TastyGM I tried to exclude it on McAfee, however it did not work. McAfee is still considering the client as a virus. What else can I do without shutting off my protection?
-
@rawrk Well.. To be quite honest calling McAfee a protection is questionable.
Other than that there is not really much else to do.. Adding the whole client folder or at least .dll and .exe is really the only thing you can do.
You can also wait for McAfee to realise we are not a virus, it usually takes them about a week or so.
-
@TastyGM so in about a week the problem will sort itself out?
-
@rawrk Yes. Then after another major patch it will be issue again. Just how McAfee likes it.
-
@TastyGM It feels like you have a bias against McAfee given your passive aggressive comments about it and it may affect your ability to give quality assistance. It has been a few days and it is still an issue, I cannot play the game. You gave me black and white options with no assistance on how to do either. I did attempt on excluding the launch on mcafee, however, I may not have done it correctly or missed something. What files exactly do I need to exclude on my protection? Thank you in advance.
-
@rawrk Hey! Unfortunately that is how it is with McAfee after our every update and there is not much we can do about it. Whole folder needs to be whitelisted for it to work, but we cannot guarantee that it will.
-
@rawrk To add to what Reaper said:
There is no other antivirus continuously flagging our files patch after patch, not mentioning the resource usage the "anti"virus has. I think nowadays having an antivirus is anything but inconvenience for an average user. Windows defender does everything you might need but that is a topic for another day.
I am unfortunately not a support member of McAfee and have never used it myself in order to give you full details on how to whitelist a whole file directory. There is unfortunately no other "fix" for said issue.
Just to make sure everything is clear in the whitelist deparment - the whole client folder needs to be whitelisted, not launcher. If you are afraid to whitelist the whole folder then .dll and .exe files need to be whitelisted at the very least.
-
@ReaperSkippy Thank you for the respectful response and the insight on McAfee with the client. I will keep trying to whitelist the folder.
@TastyGM Thank you for the clarification on the issue McAfee gives on the client. I recommend opening with that rather than passive aggressive remarks. I was not aware of the issue McAfee consistently causes. Obviously, I am not tech savvy myself, however, I will keep trying to figure out how to whitelist the whole folder. Thank you very much for explaining the situation.

@rawrk No problem at all! Sorry if I sounded P-A at the start. You can try to follow https://www.mcafee.com/support/?articleId=TS102056&page=shell&shell=article-view

@TastyGM Its okay, thank you for taking the time to help me with this issue. I did find a 'some-what' solution that allowed me to play. I could not figure out how to white list all the files, but I did discover I can temporarily shut off the "real-time scan" so I can open the launcher and download the update.
the steps:
Open McAfee
click on My Protection
click on Real-Time Scanning
click on Shut offan option pops up that will let you shut off the real time scanning for either 15 mins, 30 mins, or 45 mins. After that, the game opened up perfectly fine. Discovering how easy this was, I am much more comfortable with shutting the virus protection off - knowing it will turn itself back on in a short time. Hope this information can help someone else who uses McAfee! Thank you again for your help TastyGM, I appreciate the time and effort you put in.
