Lagging a lot when there are a lot of mobs/players loaded? (Specifically in Al'ar)
-
Hey!
Lag problems, I barely get 1 FPS when in Orgrimmar or while pulling multiple mobs at once in a dungeon. (It doesn't matter how low I make my video settings, and I see barely any differences in performance whenever I lower the video quality to its lowest value)
I made a character in Area 52 to test it out and the performance is drastically improved, compared to when I play in Al'ar.
I have not had a problem like this anywhere else, my computer is brand new.I tried checking the task manager while running Ascension when it's at its laggiest, and It only ends up using 16% of my processor, and my desktop activity is absolutely fine, like I can watch a youtube video without it lagging at all, it's specifically Ascension that's lagging.
It's also weird that I asked a few other players if they were lagging, and they said that they were fine... Though only 10% of the community seem to respond, so I really only got 2 people to say that they weren't lagging.
Here is the info you'll probably be asking
-Operating System: Windows 10 Pro Version 21H2.
-CPU Info: Intel Core i7-3770
-Motherboard Size: 16 GB
-Processor Cores: 4
-Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050If there are other things I didn't mention that would help to know feel free to ask, but basically I got a really good computer, and this problem has only ever occured while playing Ascension in the Al'ar server.

It's more than likely not your pc lagging, it's probably the game server. I have a fairly beefy PC and i drop frames in Orgrimmar as well.
-
@AccordNoir It lags whenever you play in Al'ar too?
-
@AccordNoir "dropping frames" is not internet lag / the server lagging. It's all the special effects from spells and transmogs on people's armors that makes you drop frames. Limit spell details and uninstall HD model pack if you have it, see if that helps.
@VoodooJazz said in Lagging a lot when there are a lot of mobs/players loaded? (Specifically in Al'ar):
-Operating System: Windows 10 Pro Version 21H2.
-CPU Info: Intel Core i7-3770
-Motherboard Size: 16 GB
-Processor Cores: 4
-Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Even though these specs should be okay, the weakest "link" is the CPU. Even though it's a core i7, 3rd gen is pretty old at this point. Make sure that ascension.exe is using all four cores and it's running on the nvidia gpu, not the intel integrated one. Also if you're on a laptop, make sure it's plugged into power (so it doean't choose power saving options to lower performance) and make sure the temps are okay and it's not thermal-throttling. If thr temps are too high, make sure the laptop is in a solid surface like a desk and not on cloth that can block its air intake from the bottom.
My specs are roughly like yours and I get about 10-15 fps in stormwind on Area-52 during peak hours, so I go to Ironforge instead. Try undercity or thunderbluff for horde. Also during raids where everyone is going crazy with the spell effects, I don't really know what to advise you, besides again lowering spell effects and uninstalling hd models.

@Vulpinenin Okay, thanks for the information! I'll try it out Saturday when I come back home.
How do I make sure that ascension uses all my cores? Can it be seen in an option somewhere or do I need to install a program to see it? -
@VoodooJazz Try this, but disclaimer: I have not tried any of the advice in that post, so use at your own risk. It does sound similar to your problem though.
-
@Vulpinenin Alright, so I did the processaffinitymask trick. I'm not sure if I see much of a difference. But I see that in Area 52 realm it is way more performant than in Al'ar once it loads up all the assets.
Like, in Al'ar, sometimes it's fine, but there are times when there are these extreme lag spikes after a lot of stuff are happening at once, and it can even cause my game to crash (my computer is always fine though), so I don't know what's up with that.
I'll update more on this once I find something that changes my problem
-
@VoodooJazz I don't know what changed, but I think it has stopped lagging in Al'ar so far! Feeling good
