reinstall when i close launcher

i was playing the game. restarted comp for updates, and when i opened up the launcher again, it said to INSTALL the game, now its installing 18g, and patching.
why is it reinstalling when i was just playing the game?
i know i see "update" sometimes on the launcher, which is fine, and it does the update. but ive had to "reinstall" a couple times in the passed few weeks because i closed the launcher???
