Honor for healers in battlegrounds

I've been playing a healer in BGs for the last several weeks. I have noticed that I will receive consistently fewer honor points as compared to DPS players. On a typical AB win the DPS players will receive 6-6.5k honor and I will receive 4-4.5k honor. If there is another healer on our team that player will also receive around 4-4.5k honor.
I'm tempted to call this a bug but not sure if there is something else going on, so posting here.

Sometimes I get 6k if I'm top healer on the winning team. Sometimes honor gains seem abysmally low after I nabbed flags and busted my butt off healing. Not sure why.
