What is up with Wildcard mode challenge on A52?

I have been informed that Wildcard mode has been disabled in Area 52 for some months now. Can we get a definitive answer to the questions:
-Why?
-Are there any plans to return it and when?
-Why are the NPCs for Wildcard mode still there? (Silas and his ogre pet)I was really looking forward to doing ironman wildcard on A52, it was really disappointing to find out I couldn't.
