Well, I started out wanting something to make engineer bombs more combat viable, but ended up with a LRE about placing a bomb and buffing it to do more damage.

      ...

Your Magma Totem is transformed into Powder Keg, which places a volatile barrel in front of you. The Powder Keg explodes after 8 seconds, dealing massive fire damage to all enemies in an area. (Dev note: needs a cooldown of 12 - 20 seconds.)

If you know Disarm Trap, you also learn Demolitions "Expert", a finishing move that allows you to overload your Powder Keg, reducing the time before detonation, and increasing its damage based on the number of Combo Points used. (Dev note: The timer reduction starts high and goes low, damage starts low goes high.)

Casting Thorns on the Powder Keg loads it with shrapnel, causing targets caught in the explosion to bleed for Thorns damage every second for 12 seconds.

Casting Fire Ward, Frost Ward, or Shadow Ward allows the Powder Keg to benefit from your Spell Power bonus of that school, and deal bonus damage based on the strength of the ward.

      ...

The rotation would look something like Combo Generators during Powder Keg cooldown> Powder Keg > Thorns > Ward Spell(s) > Demolitions "Expert" > Repeat. This should lead it to being a very bursty damage dealer, and players will need to consider the rotation that gets the best effect. There's also that flexibility to try detonate it early.

This would synergize with Combo Point REs like Deadly Combo and Sinister Flurry, but leave a lot of flexibility in the skill's downtime. Using wards/buffs offensively like this lends this potentially to a bit more of a support class.
