Legendary RE: Echo of the Ancient Kings
I've been jonesing for a Vrykul King-themed RE and thought I'd present a possible option that could be tweaked into existence. It's entirely possible that, in its current form, it's blatantly overpowered. That's okay, it's not real yet, and a tweaked and revised version that balances out just fine would be super cool to see in the game.
The core concepts are:
- Physical and Shadow melee fighter, with both solo and group play potential.
- As a battle progresses, you become slower and hit much harder. Some effects play on this or negate it in short bursts.
- The RE cannot be extracted and is bound to the weapon that you create during the Worldforging journey, and it must be worn to gain the RE's effects.
- The weapon stats scale on your average item level, without skewing your overall average item level in the process.
I originally had numbers in mind for how the slow/damage effect would scale but decided to leave them as X for whatever balancing passes would need to happen to get this to a good place. It's not perfect and I know it. Also, some of the abilities were inspired by well-known Vrykul foes!
PS: This RE prevents you from shapeshifting.
The Reforged Echo of the Ancient Kings uses the Plundered Blade of the Northern Kings model.
Lore
##spoiler
The sword known as the "Echo of the Ancient Kings" was stolen from King Ymiron when many Vrykul fled Northrend to save their human children. After arriving on the mainland, it was split in three during a dispute between three brothers who each sought to claim leadership in this new land. Splitting apart, the pieces passed from generation to generation and from self-proclaimed King to self-proclaimed King. Eventually, the whereabouts of the three fragments were lost to time.It is rumored that Uther had found a map, penned by King Terenas Menethil II and found on his body after death, that attempted to track down the whereabouts of these fragments. This map can be found buried nearby where Uther fell to his student's blade.
The map will have you visit the tombs of long-dead Kings, combatting their shadow-wreathed undead forms for the right to claim each fragment.
Finally, the three fragments can be recombined at a place of power, an Altar of Storms, but the player is warned that attempting to do so would summon a dangerous being that must be defeated. This being gave King Ymiron the knowledge and mysterious blood needed to craft this blade, and it will not take kindly to you claiming it for yourself.
- Although powerful in its own right, the weapon was merely a distraction. While Ymiron campaigned against the Jalgar in Kalimdor, the Watcher seeded a new strain of the curse of flesh throughout the Vrykul populace.
It would be neat if this was a group quest and required you to find friends to help you take it down and reward some ascension currency in the process.
