Blood Freeze! - LRE Frost+Bleed Combo
-
Introducing Blood Freeze! I noticed there is a lot of Mage Frost talents that flavours around bodily harm, like Frostbite, Icy Veins, Brain Freeze, Shatter, Piercing Ice... And found it strange there was nothing to cause bleeding from all of this, even though it'd make sense. So here is my take on that conundrum:
Incompatible with Winterfall Firebreath ERE and Glacial Spike ERE, as they transform Cone of Cold.
TL;DR:
Frost AoE that hurts more against bleeding targets but removes bleeds from them.
Will get stupidly powerful if several party members are running bleed builds however.Indepth brainstorming:
While it mechanically functions just like Cone of Cold, with 3% bigger mana cost, 10sec longer cooldown and makes away with the movement speed slow. However, it now makes it so Cone of Cold essentially benefits from severely bleeding targets. I chose Cone of Cold because it is already an ability that brings you close to melee range for its use.
Thanks to it also being an AoE effect, I like to think the boost through bleeding makes it possible to compete with Blizzard and other RE Frost AoEs.
Internal Bleeding makes it possible to use synergize it with other bleed builds, and with how Frost talents are structured, it will be easy to trigger it on frozen targets. And to make it even more reliable since going melee-hybrid makes it tougher to spam cast frostbolt, Blood Runs Cold makes it so you always have that 5% chance (assuming it's maxed) to briefly freeze targets, which can be especially potent with melee abilities that does AoE.I also did some math on the potential uptime of Blood Runs Cold:
Cold Blood = 10sec up.
Preparation>Cold Blood = 10sec up.
Icy Veins = 10sec up.
Cold Snap>Icy Veins = 10sec up.
40sec total uptime for Blood Runs Cold, meaning you will be sitting on that juicy 25% crit chance vs frozen while having a chance to freeze targets during it all too. Very powerful. The devastating downside to this entire RE is the obvious removal of ALL bleeds from ALL hit targets. While it does boost your damage significantly to have other people in your party run bleed builds, it is very likely to completely destroy their potential damage output if you're interfering with their combos by removing needed bleeds.
However, we are talking 10% damage boost per bleed removed and there is a LOT of different bleed afflictions out there.Potential RE synergies:
Freezing Strike (Epic)
Freezing Blood (Epic)
Shatter (Epic)
Prepare to Shatter (Epic)
Frost Reaver (Epic)
Honed Ice (Rare)
Cryokinesis (Rare)Any RE that causes AoE Bleeds are also great for obvious reasons:
