Please don't kill draft (the Thrall version not Archimonde)
-
So i heard by a famous influencer that they would prefer the new "draft" released in S4 over the existing draft and that it should be made permanent.
Is their opinion and good for them even thought i disagree. I don't feel that Archimonde is any sort of draft, in fact i feels that the whole classless is even "less true" when we play the new "draft". The main reason is not only every skill/ability is pre-selected, but so are the talents.
In my opinion this is even more restricted than regular classes. Yes i get the "spend less time building your class and more time playing the class" but if i wanted something ready to play with few spells i would play retail.
Ascension is about classless and while the REs are great, they accumulated a flaw over time. The problem with situations that happen over time is that we may not "recognize" them as problems or when we do they are way too massive/big to handle (big as in we need to do/undo a lot of changes to fix/revert or change course )
The problem is power. I am an avid spell caster never really liked any type of class/character that didn't have any tricks up their sleeve. In retail i loved warlocks cause except vs rogues and some hunters and some warriors you stood a chance to win if you played right. Also they affliction lock was mobile i can't stand the "stand still to cast stuff" tactic/idea.
So i always build something of my own and most of the time it doesn't win but then came Disciple of Arugal. I liked it and even found a way to play it differently without shadowbolt.
The problem: At first ppl where (when it was random pick and draft seasons i started on s5 i think) getting the abilities at random and based on that they would use RE's to complement the abilities. Now they get the REs and take abilities to complement them.
This is happening because for example with Disciple of Arugal the base damage of SHADOW missiles is higher than that of ARCANE missiles. Also check Shadowbolt vs Shadowwaste bolt, during leveling SW botl deals a bit less upfront damage (i think about minus 10-30%) and then it ticks for another 3 times for the same amount of dmg (example if swbolt gits for 100 the next 3 ticks will deal +100 dmg each = 300 while shadowbotl will hit for ~130), which scales down once u hit cap but... for leveling in bgs? it was swbolt against 50% target...booom u dead mean while dots (agony, corruption) hit for 10-15 dmg/tick/2-3 seconds.... Same goes for some other abilities.
The REs in general are way stronger than the baseline abilities. People don't play classless they play REs because they are more powerful than anything else especially REs that give you abilities.
Add the fact that ppl will always get more excited when they get something that either deals "massive/big" dmg compared to existing or "demolishes/deletes" hp bars(pvp wise) and you end up with a power creep and REs that either are "Maxed" or "Junk".
While the above text is not enough to explain what i see as "wrong" in my perspective, with making the "pre-builded" draft permanent (i get how ascension may, with Archimonde be testing the RE classes, in order to "inject" them into say COA ) and why i prefer the regular draft.
Also a Feature request: Implement an IN-GAME VOTING system. Accounts with a maxed lvl char on current season/league can vote on presented choices and write 150-200 chars with it (example voting: what would you like for next season a) draft b) random c) builded draft d) xyz ).
Much better than just working with only 1-10(or even a 100) youtubers/streamers and getting influenced by their perspective. They (the youtubers/streamers) may be the most "vocal" (in their way) and even bring in new ppl but they are not alone in playing and surely not the majority.
My 2 cents for S4: In general S4 felt good in terms of gameplay but build draft felt restrictive. Idea: use wood to create temporary FOBs and make it so invasions are more "invading" towns and heroes try to stop them and even "rebuild" "destroyed" towns
TL;DR don't buff things just nerf REs to make base abilities relevant and maybe nerf/buff hp of npcs. Also give ppl an in game voting system so the playing majority can decide what they like and what not.
Thanks for your time
Cheers
