Off meta tanking is pretty much impossible now....
-
I have been playing a crimson champion in ascended eye and ssc for a while now and wanted to dip my toes into a metamorph tank seeing as i had experience with that when this was still clasic.
I just cant get it to work normally as i get clobbered to death by everything in mythic 0 dungeons and keeping agro is hard AF.I took pretty much every form of increase to armor got a bunch of added damage and even included 2 treath RE's and a fell guard with master demo.
Still its impossible to tank without a amazing healer.Ascension what did you do!?
This build worked before bc but now its a complete sideshow and barely manages at all.
You said that the new tanking change the big one you showed everywhere would fix so many problems with tanks and open up so many more options but it all got changed into either play bear or a block tank everything else is now trash.
I realy dont know how to fix my build atm i need some tips or something... -
@ThisguyJake sorry i no know how make this tank posible now before you can use righteous fury + any form but now need make some new custom skill that you can on/off like hunters aspects for all posible tanks forms (like healer tank(tree of life) , moonkin, metamorph and pet tank ? )
and can be same skill but make less threat in tank stances/form for can make dps/heal that can use tank skills/talents (like for healer Divinity talent + Champion of Justice LRE or Dark Surgeon LRE)

@ThisguyJake You should talk with Bessie (alar), he is playing Meta tank and as far as i know he is most experienced one.
I seen him tanking pug Mag HC with ease, not sure how it preforms in current raid tier. -
@ThisguyJake I think the problem extends to all non-bear & crimson tanks atm.
Problem is with Meta, Mana Forged, Parry tanks even .... they're just working their asses so much harder to make anything work and be viable!
Between insane gear dependency, a lack on RE's to support, and a talent pool selection that's only viable to a certain extent .... this is just the state of the game
Leveling is fine, but the second that first mythic dungeon happens, it's very clear how much further back all tanks are that aren't bear & crimson.
(this is coming off a week of really trying to perfect a manaforged tank. The frustration is real )

yeah got to the point where im not getting dunked on instantly using things like the magic dmg reduction from the warlock tree and min maxing my armor.
But you guys are right it takes a but load of work to get it functional. One more issue i have is that you dont get enough stamina out of most cloth/leather gear.
So thats one more thing to work on hard. -
@ThisguyJake had the same issue with the manaforged tank. I even see some people just totally ditching the cloth/leather move and pushing straight for plate.
It's just a bittersweet need considering the bonus that exists for buffing cloth/leather still realistically is below, or almost at level with what plate armor would be anyways. -
@Tyrri WHOAH ! Hold your horses mate !
Parry tanks are in excellent state both for M+ and raids. Yes, they are more gear depended than crimson/bear (e.g. bear can brainlessly equip higher ilvl, parry tank needs stat priority) but their stagger mechanics make them "immue" to burst and so much easier to keep alive - personally as a healer main they are my favourite kind of tanks.
Bear tanks are shit in 90% encounters beacuse of how much damage they take. Yes, they have giant HP pool and good damage output but keeping them alive (specially during Grevious wounds week) is pain in the ass. In their defence i have to say - they shine in every situation that a tank is getting stunned/disabled beacuse being stunned makes parry/crimson tanks unable to parry/block/dodge - they start taking as much damage as bears.. but again - bears have 2x more HP so they easily deal with stuns.
Mana tanks scale with gear, this is all you have to know. The better the gear, the easier content becomes for them. At start of TBC manatanks were absolute trash, now they are definitely playable. A week ago i did M9 with my manaforged friend that has 126 ilvl (but already optimized ~half of his gear). Nothing too crazy but to be honest - i have feeling that 130ilvl with fully optimized gear he will be comparable to Crimson and should be able to beat him later on.

@PeacefulNPC
Everything is possible if you think, but something can be quite difficult to manage to put togetherI play on A52 and I have made a build for mana-forged barrier, unfortunately this skill is missing (21k+ mana 15k hp, every kill = +6k mana, 2k hp every 6 sec 1.5k mana per 5 when cast, dodge, parry and block +-30%)(with max heroic dungeon items)
