With new Season and lots of changes, is Melee still trash in PvP?

Im a pure pvp'r and it sucks that this super neat server with all the crazy builds has always forced you into caster builds for PvP. Smite, frostbolt, w/e its always been ranged caster and only the absolute best geared very specific melee builds can even remotely compete with the unoptimized average gear casters.
So has Season 8 made this divide worse or better or no real change?

Haven't yet experienced max lvl pvp but when I've done pvp during my prestiges it really depends on the map.
TM vs SS, melee are pretty much fk'd as there's no los they can maneuver around so you're always under attack.
The other bg's are the same as they've always been so if you have no gap closer / slow effect you'll be kited. Though if you can get on people there are some builds that hit really hard.

There have been good PvP builds in Ascension for as long as I have been playing and that continues to this day. Dragon Warrior and Predator's Wrath were very good in season 7 and, while I don't know about Predator's Wrath, I do know that Dragon Warrior continues to be very powerful.
A lot more builds work in BGs than in arena's, good luck prying trade secrets out of the hardcore arena players though. XD

I see a lot of melee tank builds in bgs and cat form hybrids.
Personally I play melee hunter and im doing fine, easy to play with a bunch of CC and strong auto attack dmg.Inside arena I saw only stealth builds as melee.
Overall melee is average at best Inside BG.
There are still many new combinations to be found and I think melee builds will shine in the next few weeks.

Melee usually win in 1v1

@Neonbootygoon i often play melee, it is very good in ascension provided you have gap closers and a consistent build, the trick is positioning, burst and containment (never tunnel vision), my fav spell in the game is lava lash with molten fury but ive pulled of otehr builds too, there as been a great deal of balances in pvp that imo have increased the value of melee

I love casting and that is all I've been doing for just about over a year and I normally do horrible against melee. They seem to have a quick answer for everything.
After looking at the scoreboard and my recount after fight. You will see a few of both melee and casters at the very top in damage and kills.
I believe it all depends on the build and how strong it is. I can do very well as a caster, until I get targeted by melee, they can usually lock me out and kill me fast.
You have to have several gap closers and immediately CC and this is where melee has a huge advantage, you can CC chain much easier, because you don't have to cast.
So basically lots of mobility and CC, with high damage and you should have a much easier time with melee, especially now, melee has had much more leading the scoreboard recently.
